GSA celebrates the completion of new student community, Yugo Adelaide City
06 June 2022
Global Student Accommodation (GSA) have today celebrated the launch of Yugo Adelaide City and welcomed students from across the globe. The newly opened building has already been positively received, with 90% of students arriving from international locations.
The launch coincides with a strong rebound by the student housing sector, which is firmly on the recovery trajectory in Australia and globally following the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Study Adelaide, since Australia’s borders opened to international students in mid-December, South Australia has welcomed the return of more than 7,000 international students to Adelaide.
Operated by GSA’s global operating partner Yugo, Yugo Adelaide City offers a truly differentiated living experience, through three pillars based on sustainability, to 725 Australian and international students in Adelaide. The property features extensive communal areas, group study spaces, outdoor terraces, gym, cinema, communal kitchens and social spaces, and will serve as a hub to enhance the student experience at university.
Yugo Adelaide City is in a prime location, opposite the universities of South Australia and Adelaide, and start-up hub and business incubator Lot Fourteen. It is very close to public transport, retail precinct Rundle Mall and restaurant, café and boutique fashion capital Rundle St, putting students at the heart of Adelaide’s busy commercial and cultural area.
The development of Yugo Adelaide City was led by GSA Development Director, Travis Harkness:
“I am delighted to have welcomed the first students to Yugo Adelaide City. It’s a milestone that I am incredibly proud of and testament to the team that have worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver this development.
“Globally, student housing has proven to be a resilient sector, underpinned by continuing growing demand for higher education globally and a strong preference for in-person learning. We see this across Australia and here in Adelaide, where students are attracted by the economic and cultural opportunities and world-leading status of the universities.
“As a global leader in the student housing sector, GSA continues to look at opportunities to execute our growth strategy. In doing so, we work together with our global operating partner, Yugo, to bring decades of expertise to enhance the student living experience in our markets.”
Tim Klitscher, Managing Director APAC, said Yugo was proud to welcome students to this newly-built, flagship Yugo property, a true representation of the Yugo student living experience.
“At Yugo, our diverse experience and knowledge allows us not only to be connected across different geographies but also helps provide insights from the biggest markets worldwide. As the first and only global student housing brand and operator, we’re confident Yugo Adelaide City will not only meet but exceed our students’ needs.”
